Boat moved... harbor office informed.

The boat was removed from Keehi on Sunday 9/20 and taken by trailer to Kaneohe by new owner. The harbor office is closed on Sundays and Mondays, so I called to inform them the boat is no longer there today 9/22.

I spoke with Lane and hope to go out sailing with him someday.

Items left with boat and Harbor breaking news!

The photo is of what I brought back to the boat. Just felt right.
Then this morning 9/19 while out to breakfast with my Mom, I got a call from the harbor office telling me that instead of having till Oct. 8th... I had to move the boat this weekend. Because they were condemning the #500 pier- which I'm on. Luckily Lane is planning on taking it out on the trailer tomarrow 9/20/09. Hope all goes well.

Sold in less than 24 hours!

A nice guy named Lane bought 'Tini' this morning.
That was a fun short time of owning her for me.
He has a trailer that can be modified, so won't deal with the harbors.

Aloha!

I had a sad day today dealing with the insane, badly run bureaucracy of Hawaii State small boat harbors.

When a boat is purchased that is berthed in a State small boat harbor...
The slip is not transferable. So the new owner goes to temporary permit status.
Immediately getting on the wait list for permanent status, which may(will) take years. While on temp. permits, the owner has to go into the harbor office every 2 weeks and pay the docking fee (in cash only), all the while being threatened with having to remove the boat from that harbor if not before definitely after 90 days!

My 90 days at Keehi are up on Oct. 08, 2009. I checked the private marinas in Keehi Lagoon and found out that Keehi Marine Center has no slips for my size (18'er) boat at all, while La Marianas Marina has a waiting list where I'm now #29 on that list. I can't stay in Keehi Lagoon?!

Which means that I'll have to go to the Ala Wai Boat Harbor. Will check with them tomarrow. My problems are numerous for this.

1) My electric outboard will be installed, but is meant for short distances. Just in and out of the docks. Not motoring along the coast to Ala Wai. I wouldn't have enough battery power for that.

2) My boat needs lots of rigging work done before she can be safely sailed. Would hate to rush it and drop my mast! If I just had another 6 months or so, before having to move it. Damn!

3) I don't have much money at the moment, after purchasing the boat and items, along with going to Fiji! Seriously considering a bank loan, though don't want to.

4) Possibly borrow another gas outboard for the trip? Still would have to get back to Keehi Marine Center (Boat Yard) for dry docking and rigging work when kicked out of Ala wai Harbor in 90 days or less!

Now for the absolutely ridiculous part. There are MANY empty slips in Keehi small boat harbor presently. They (The State) are doing this craziness to sooo many boaters. I just don't get it!!!

Considering taking all that I've bought off of Tini and selling her for what I can get or donating to the Sea Scouts or UH Marine Tech Studies for a tax write-off.
Not sure yet, what I'll do.

Battery securing apparatus and outboard recepticle

I test fit the wood for securing the battery in place.
Slightly tight which is good, a little sanding will take care of that.
Then sealing the wood, epoxying it in place, and mounting the strap brackets.

Also bought the 1 1/8" hole cutter to mount the outboard power recepticle.
It will be at the aft starboard end of the cockpit.

Since returning from Fiji and back to work, I haven't had an evening off yet!!!
19 work days in a row and my first scheduled off is Sat. Sept. 5th.
Going hiking with some buddies that day.

Promise to get going seriously on the boat soon.

8/21/09 Starting on the electrical system, etc.

I bought a 105ah Deep Cycle AGM battery, volt meter & switch(to check condition), along with a 50 amp manual breaker-wire-connectors for the outboard wiring.
I bought a 15amp 'smart' battery charger too!

And I took a few photos...

I'm back and back at it!

I measured the area for the installation of my batteries and took down all info on my motor so I can order the wiring harness for it.
Also bought a 4 step removable boarding ladder today. There are 2 handles attached to the transom for climbing aboard and I did use them after scraping the bottom, but what a struggle. Guess I'm not 20 anymore eh?! I'll remove them and patch the holes soon.

Gotta get the boat moving under it's own power first then the next step... drydocking for bottom work. I'm considering black (hard) bottom paint and Yellow topsides. Will get everything that bolts on to the hull new before I take it out. Like rudder gudgeons, forward u-bolt and hopefully the bow chainplate too. So I can then remove the old items, paint, and replace with new.

I had a great vacation with my wife and I'm glad to be home again too!

7/27/09 Cataloging and cleaning up 2

Here are interior shots. Was a real mess everywhere.
One of my ice chests fits the step area and I'll firm it up soon.
Outboard motor info too.

7/27/09 Cataloging and cleaning up

I've spent the last few days cleaning up the boat and cataloging the condition in which I got it.

I also got a MotorGuide 12v Saltwater electric outboard that gives 54lbs maximum thrust.

7/19/09 5hp Nissan Outboard Stolen

Went down to the boat this morning to find the lock cut and my outboard stolen.
Weird because although I was planning on fixing it up, I really wanted a better motor.
Let's see what I come up with...

7/14/09 State Harbor Inspection Day

In the few days getting ready for the inspection...
I scraped all the vegetation of the bottom, borrowed a running outboard since mine did not, I bought four new dock lines, clip on- AA battery operated running/stern lights, flare gun & handhelds, 11LB claw anchor 20' of 1/4" chain 150' of anchor line, cotter pin for the rudder- yes it wasn't there, and more.

The standing and running rigging needs replacing. So no sailing yet.

Part of the test is going out Keehi Lagoon Channel to the last marker and back.
I thoroughly enjoyed the alone time and serenity. Being on the ocean and seeing Diamond Head, Priceless!

7/08/09 she's mine!

I bought this beautiful though needing a total refit sailboat!
So thought I'd create a blog about it...

It's a great boat that Shane St. Clair sailed solo across from San Diego to Hawaii in 28 days back in 1987!

Anyways... more to come.
