I had a sad day today dealing with the insane, badly run bureaucracy of Hawaii State small boat harbors.

When a boat is purchased that is berthed in a State small boat harbor...
The slip is not transferable. So the new owner goes to temporary permit status.
Immediately getting on the wait list for permanent status, which may(will) take years. While on temp. permits, the owner has to go into the harbor office every 2 weeks and pay the docking fee (in cash only), all the while being threatened with having to remove the boat from that harbor if not before definitely after 90 days!

My 90 days at Keehi are up on Oct. 08, 2009. I checked the private marinas in Keehi Lagoon and found out that Keehi Marine Center has no slips for my size (18'er) boat at all, while La Marianas Marina has a waiting list where I'm now #29 on that list. I can't stay in Keehi Lagoon?!

Which means that I'll have to go to the Ala Wai Boat Harbor. Will check with them tomarrow. My problems are numerous for this.

1) My electric outboard will be installed, but is meant for short distances. Just in and out of the docks. Not motoring along the coast to Ala Wai. I wouldn't have enough battery power for that.

2) My boat needs lots of rigging work done before she can be safely sailed. Would hate to rush it and drop my mast! If I just had another 6 months or so, before having to move it. Damn!

3) I don't have much money at the moment, after purchasing the boat and items, along with going to Fiji! Seriously considering a bank loan, though don't want to.

4) Possibly borrow another gas outboard for the trip? Still would have to get back to Keehi Marine Center (Boat Yard) for dry docking and rigging work when kicked out of Ala wai Harbor in 90 days or less!

Now for the absolutely ridiculous part. There are MANY empty slips in Keehi small boat harbor presently. They (The State) are doing this craziness to sooo many boaters. I just don't get it!!!

Considering taking all that I've bought off of Tini and selling her for what I can get or donating to the Sea Scouts or UH Marine Tech Studies for a tax write-off.
Not sure yet, what I'll do.
