I bought a great classic! The first year Catalina introduced the Capri 18. And this one has a history too. Captain Shane St. Claire sailed from California to Hawaii in 28 days back in 1987! It needs a total refit, which I'll enjoy doing and then sail inter-island here in Hawaii when ready!
awesome

I tried a trolling motor 28 lb thrust on mine while repairing my 4 hp Yamaha. It worked on an inland lake in smooth water. It was slow but worked. I would not have wanted it any rougher or busier or I would have held up traffic in and out and It would not move around fast enough in the wind. I wouldn't even attempt an electric going out in the ocean.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul for your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteThis 54 lb thrust MotorGuide Outboard was used a couple of times aboard my friend's Columbia 28' and I admit it was light duty for that large a sailboat, but moved it around. Once my Capri 18 is rerigged, I'll be sailing and only need it for actual docking of the boat. Think it'll be fine.
